The coordinator Adj. Prof. Gabriela Lorite and consortium partner Prof. Simo Saarakkala were interviewed regarding the synergy of MIRACLE and RESTORE projects, both funded by the H2020.

The interview resulted in a press release by the University of Oulu entitled “New measuring technique and better care for joint cartilage damage as objectives”.

Globally, 242 million people suffer from osteoarthritis. Many are elderly, but younger generations can also suffer from joint cartilage damages. Currently, the cartilage assessment during arthroscopy is very subjective and there is no efficient treatment to repair articular cartilage. While MIRACLE focus on the development of mid-infrared arthroscopy probe to enable objective assessment of articular cartilage damages, RESTORE aims to develop a functional scaffold to repair the structure of damaged cartilage. These two project present the perfect synergy between diagnosis and treatment. University of Oulu is proud to be part of both teams!
